Synopsis: Peace is an elusive thing. When we think we’ve found it, it can slip away from us like sand in an hourglass. Yet peace is something our hearts are constantly searching for, relentlessly pursuing without our conscious thoughts even being aware of it. Why? Because a life of turmoil is a miserable place to live. Imagine a life filled with peace, joy, and hope, even in the midst of difficult circumstances, instead of one filled with worry, anxiety, and anger. This is the life God desires for us because we are His beloved children. And so He pursues us, desiring to place our feet on a path which leads to peace. Jesus called this shalom, and He blessed His followers with it in double measure, shalom shalom, meaning perfect peace!
It wasn’t until recent years that I have come near to that level of peace. Most of my life was spent in varying degrees of turmoil. That lack of peace hit a crescendo after my family suffered unspeakable losses which crushed my faith and trust in God. It is only by His grace that my wife and I walk in peace, the shalom that the Bible refers to this as “The peace of God that surpasses all understanding.” (Philippians 4:7). Join me on that path as we allow Jesus to overtake us with His perfect peace.
